Great post, Laura! As a literary translator (German «» English) myself I've recently decided to do my own versions of some Rilke poems. It's exactly the dilemma you're describing :: how do you "transliterate" the rhyming scheme, the rhythm, the sequence of stanzas AND stay close to the words? The answer is captured in your beautiful sample of Zamudio's poem/ verse. Congratulations! I was already thinking along the same lines. Your explanations are giving me the confidence and encouragement to do more of this.

And you're right. It takes x-times longer, but it's so much fun!!
