It's exactly the dilemma you're describing :: how do you "transliterate" the rhyming scheme, the rhythm, the sequence of stanzas AND stay close to the words? The answer is captured in your beautiful sample of Zamudio's poem/ verse. Congratulations! I was already thinking along the same lines. Your explanations are giving me the confidence and encouragement to do more of this.
